Star housing, and what it needs
Star has grown faster in the last decade than almost anywhere else in Ada County, and the housing reflects it. Most of what we work on here was built within the last fifteen years, on generous lots, with the large simple rooflines that come with modern production building. The work is usually clean and quick. The recurring issue is capacity rather than condition: gutter that was adequate for the show home is not always adequate for the larger plan on the same street.
What the weather does to gutters in Star
Star sits close to the Boise River, and the lower lying properties near it hold humidity longer through autumn. Wet leaf litter that stays wet is heavier and packs harder than the same volume would a few miles up the hill, which is why Star gutters block at the outlet rather than filling evenly.

When to book in Star
The thing to time in Star is the downspouts rather than the troughs. Wet leaf litter near the river packs into outlets through October and November, so a clear out in late autumn after the drop finishes is worth more than an early one. New build capacity problems are best sorted in spring, before the summer storms arrive.

We are eight years into a newer Star home. Is it too early to be thinking about gutters?
Not necessarily, but for a different reason than age. Modern gutter has plenty of life left at eight years. What we are usually called out for in Star is capacity, where the standard gutter fitted across a subdivision is undersized for a particular larger plan. If yours overflows in a heavy storm while your neighbour with a smaller house is fine, that is the reason and it is fixable without replacing everything.
Our downspouts block but the gutters look clear. Why?
Very common close to the river. Leaf litter here stays damp well into autumn, and wet leaves pack much harder than dry ones. They travel to the outlet, wedge in the elbow, and the trough above stays looking fine from the ground while the water has nowhere to go. Clearing the downspout is the fix, and outlet screens usually prevent a repeat.
